Prince George gifted an 18k Victorian-style playhouse by King Charles - it includes a wood-b

WHAT do you buy the royal child who has everything?

King Charles once gifted grandson Prince George a very luxurious pad for his birthday - a £18,000 swanky shepherd’s hut.

When he’s not running around Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, the young royal is able to play in his very own playhouse, which is located on the grounds of the monarch’s Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire.

Granted it may not be as large as the extravagant mansions that he’s used to being in, but this shepherd’s hut is no ordinary playhouse.

Forget having a cheap interior, this hut has European oak flooring, a real wood-burner and a luxury daybed, while the double-glazed window frames are made from seasoned English oak.

The hut is placed on the edges of a wildflower meadow in a spot hand-chosen by Charles - so Prince George, now 10, and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, have a very beautiful view as they play.

More on the royals

It was created by hut firm Plankbridge, and co-founder Richard Lee told People back in 2020: “We made it for his first birthday last year.

“As he gets older, it will be more than a [play house]. It will be whatever they want it to be.”

He added that the royals had been thrilled with the tiny home, and said they were “very positive – everybody loves it!”

The whole home took over 250 hours to build and there is a touching story behind it.

It was created as a token of appreciation which came from their company receiving funding from the Prince’s Trust in 1994.

At the time, Richard had been a struggling carpenter making garden furniture, and the money was gratefully received.

He explained: “We offered to do it and they were very grateful for the offer.”

Charles had a key role and helped with the design, and even picked out the interior paint colour - duck egg blue.

His designs are based on traditional Victorian shepherd huts, which were used by shepherds for shelter.

Richard’s creations even featured in the film Far From The Madding Crowd starring Carey Mulligan.

Prince George’s hut is said to have gone down well with the young royal, and he loves playing in it, according to Richard.

He added: “Apparently so! Yes, he’s been in it and he’s played in there. It’s their private home and we don’t get too involved, but we’ve heard that it’s gone down well.”

This year, as is tradition, King Charles will reportedly spend the day at Sandringham with the other royals - along with Queen Camilla's children and grandchildren.

Harry and his wife Meghan are expected to celebrate Christmas in California with their children Archie and Lilibet, Tatler reports.
